Susan Chaplinsky

Professor of Business Administration
Susan Chaplinsky is the faculty
leader for the Batten Institute’s Risk Capital Initiative and Program
Leader for the Angel Investors Intensive. She teaches Entrepreneurship and
Private Equity and Corporate Financing in Darden’s MBA program. Her
research interests are primarily in corporate finance with specialized
interests in private equity, security issuance, capital structure, and
employee stock ownership plans. Professor Chaplinsky joined the Darden
faculty in 1994, after appointments at Northwestern University and the
University of Michigan. She completed her doctorate in business economics
at the University of Chicago's Business School in 1984.
John May

John May has been a venture capitalist and angel investor organizer for
over 15 years. He founded New Vantage in 1997 to provide private equity
management services. Has been a partner or advisor in five venture funds
and started two angel networks, which have grown to over 100 investors
each. In 1999, he co-founded an innovation in angel investing, The Dinner
Club, which has grown to five Clubs with over 300 investors in the
Washington Metropolitan Area. An acknowledged leader in the structured
angel movement, he brings “real world” experience, contacts, and a
background in teaching and writing to Darden and University of Virginia
community at large. He completed his Masters in Administration at Syracuse
University.
April Triantis

Director, Program in Law and Business
April Triantis is an expert on
venture capital transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and teaches a
course at UVA’s Law School on Venture Capital which focuses on how
financial, legal and economic issues are dealt with in contracts related
to private equity. Professor Triantis also directs the Law School's
Program in Law and Business. Before joining the faculty in 2001, Professor
Triantis practiced law in the corporate departments of Brown and Wood in
New York and Kirkland and Ellis in Chicago. She received her J.D. from
Pepperdine University in 1996 and her Master of Laws from New York
University School of Law in 1997.
Ronald T. Wilcox
Darden Graduate School of Business Administration
Associate Professor of Business Administration
Ron Wilcox’s expertise is in the
areas of financial services marketing, auctions, pricing strategy, and new
product development. He teaches First Year Marketing and Marketing
Research in Darden’s MBA program. Professor Wilcox joined the Darden
faculty in 2001. He is formerly an assistant professor at the Carnegie
Mellon Graduate School of Industrial Administration and an economist for
the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He completed his masters and
doctorate at Washington University.

Teaching Method
In accordance with Darden's outstanding MBA and Exec Ed programs,
the Angel Investor Intensive will be taught using the case study
method, with actual business cases examined to simulate real world
situations. The cases will be facilitated through classroom
discussions, role play, small group discussions using a a variety of
audio/visual media. An extensive reference manual, including all the
materials, cases and readings used and developed throughout the
Intensive will be given to each participant to serve as a desktop
resource for future reference. |
